NLO Week 2020

Nobody Left Outside initiative celebrates NLO Week 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the existing challenges of marginalised communities, including homeless people, LGTBI people, people who use drugs, prisoners, sex workers and undocumented migrants. People in these groups are at greater risk of poor health, yet face many barriers in accessing healthcare. While COVID-19 has affected everyone, marginalised communities have faced particular challenges requiring specific policy responses – as recently explained in a briefing paper developed by the Nobody left Outside initiative (NLO) for the WHO European Office for Investment for Health and Development.

Through a series activities and events (see below) we will debate and discuss these challenges and together re-imagine a better, more inclusive, resilient system for health and social care with marginalised people at the heart of both design and delivery. These crucial issues are the focus of NLO Week 2020, running from 12-16 October 2020 and featuring:

  • a series of podcasts with prominent stakeholders in conversation with Paul Adamson from Encompass, to be posted daily from 12-15 October on Encompass and this website.
  • a webinar titled “COVID-19 in Marginalised Groups – Challenges, actions and voices” on 16 October (14.00-15.30 CET) in collaboration with the European Health Forum Gastein. Please follow this link to register.

Find us on Twitter (@nobody_left_out) to learn more about NLO and to keep up with the latest developments in #NLOWeek 2020.

Now is the time to learn from the COVID-19 pandemic to improve healthcare access for everyone – leaving no-one outside.

EHFG Gastein 2019

A healthy dose of disruption : the Nobody Left Outside Initiative joins the European Health Forum Gastein

The Nobody Left Outside initiative is pleased to announce its participation in the 2019 edition of the European Health Forum Gastein. Our breakfast workshop (3 October 2019) will provide an update on the journey of the Nobody Left Outside coalition and the presentation of the collaborative work, including a Joint Statement developed with the support of the European Commission through the EU Health Policy Platform and the development of a Service Design Checklist, a tool to help policy makers and healthcare providers to develop accessible health and support services for underserved and stigmatized communities.

This session emphasises the conference’s theme “A healthy dose of disruption? Transformative change for health and societal well-being”, affirming that underserved groups are not necessarily ‘hard to reach’ – the health services are.

In addition to this workshop, an interactive photo exhibition will be taking place during the Gastein Forum (3 and 4 October 2019). The photo exhibition will provide an opportunity to interact with members of the NLO initiative, as well as the stories and the cross-sectorial perspectives of their communities, with the aim of overcoming bias that hinders equitable access.
