NLO Voices 2021: NLO and ECDC on community engagement
The Nobody Left Outside initiative participated with the NLO Voices series in the European Health Forum Gastein 2021. Members of the NLO network discussed the EHFG programme through the lense of marginalised communities, interview relevant experts, and envision what must be done to make sure nobody is left outside as we strive for a resilient recovery in Europe.
In this podcast, we speak with Andrea Ammon and John Kinsman from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and discuss the EHFG Session “Community engagement for health emergencies: Integrating lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic”.
We cover the role of community engagement in emergency situations, the need to integrate it into preparedness plans and how it can be institutionalized to ensure funding, understanding, staffing and political will. We further speak about involvement of marginalised communities in consultation processes and policy making, the social determinants of health and the role of long-term health data.

The Nobody Left Outside initiative collaborated with filmmaker and photographer Alan Compton created the “Point of View” photo exhibition, capturing the personal viewpoint of individuals facing significant challenges in accessing healthcare. In this podcast, we explore why capturing lived experience narratives is so important in raising awareness and improving understanding of those living on the edges of the health care system, and further in advocating for more inclusive health and social care systems.
